All you need to know

8 geodes All different pieces The AURORA iridescent agate geode set brings together eight small geodes split in two, whose cavity lined with tiny quartz crystals sparkles under an iridescent metallic coating. Deep purple, midnight blue, gold, silver, rose copper or rainbow reflections: each half-geode catches the light in its own way. These colors are not natural, and we prefer to say it clearly: they come from a thin metallic deposit applied to the surface of a natural geode, which retains its shape, texture and original crystals. The pieces measure approximately 2.5 to 4 cm and are presented in a box measuring 8 to 8.5 × 9.5 to 10 cm, ready to gift. As with any natural stone, the shades and shapes vary from one set to another. A decorative and collectible item to place on a shelf, a desk or in a display case of collectible minerals.

A natural geode under a veil of metal

A geode is a hollow cavity that formed in a rock. Over thousands of years, silica-rich waters flowed through it, depositing layer after layer of agate on the walls, then small quartz crystals pointing toward the center. Once the stone is opened, this bed of crystals is revealed, sparkling at the slightest ray of light.

The AURORA geodes then received a metallic coating (the supplier states it is titanium-based), applied in a very thin layer. This film creates iridescent reflections through light interference, like on a soap bubble or an oil slick: the color changes depending on the viewing angle. The underside of the stone and its texture remain those of the natural geode.

The AURORA spirit

An aurora in the palm of your hand

We named this set AURORA for its colors, which recall the shifting veils of the aurora borealis. Under a desk lamp, a geode appears purple; turn it a quarter turn, and it turns blue, then gold.

What we like is the contrast between the raw rock, rough and irregular, and the almost precious sparkle of the cavity. Arrange them in a row on a shelf, place one near the screen, or tuck one into a bowl: each becomes a little point of light.

And there is that simple pleasure of opening the box: eight stones, eight shades, eight shapes. No one will have exactly the same as you.

Showcase your geodes

1
Unpack with care. Remove the geodes one by one from their box and place them on a soft cloth to discover them.
2
Choose the light. Place them near a window or under a lamp: the iridescent reflections stand out better.
3
Create an arrangement. Align them by color, in a gradient, or group them in a bowl or display case.
4
Dust gently. A soft brush or a blower is enough: no water, no products, no rubbing.

Good to know: the bright colors of AURORA are not found as they are in nature. If you are looking for stones in their original shades, without any treatment, turn to the raw LITHOS minerals, among which is a natural agate geode. For iridescent reflections born from a chemical reaction, see the BISMA bismuth crystal.

Tip: to make the crystals shine, light the geodes from the side, with a directional lamp or the grazing light of a window. Placed on a dark background (dark wood, slate, velvet), their reflections stand out even more.

Frequently asked questions

Are the colors of the geodes natural?

No, and we want to be clear on this point. The stone is indeed a natural geode, with its rock, its agate and its original quartz crystals. The bright colors and iridescent reflections, however, come from a thin metallic deposit applied to the surface, stated by the supplier to be titanium-based. It is this treatment that gives these purple, blue, gold or rainbow shades, which are not found as they are in nature. If you prefer stones in their original colors, the raw LITHOS minerals are made for you.

How many geodes does the set contain and what is their size?

The set contains 8 half-geodes. Each measures approximately 2.5 to 4 cm, depending on its shape: you can hold several in the palm of your hand. They are lined up in a cardboard box approximately 8 to 8.5 cm wide by 9.5 to 10 cm long, convenient to store and gift. The exact size of each piece varies, since they are natural stones and not molded objects.

Will I receive exactly the geodes in the photo?

Not exactly. Since each geode is a natural stone, its shape, size and the distribution of its crystals are unique. The shades of the assortment can also change from one set to another: you will find shades among purple, blue, gold, silver, rose copper or rainbow, without a guarantee of a specific color. The number of pieces, however, always remains eight. This is precisely what makes the charm of the set: no two are identical.

How to care for geodes with an iridescent coating?

The coating is very thin: it must therefore be handled with care. To remove dust, use a soft brush, a clean makeup brush or a blower. Avoid water, household products, alcohol and abrasive cloths, which could dull or wear down the metallic layer. Handle the geodes with clean and dry hands, and store them away from impacts to preserve the small crystals in the cavity. When properly treated, they retain their reflections for a long time.

Do these geodes have any special properties?

We present AURORA solely as a decorative and collectible item. We attribute no special virtue or property to these stones: their interest lies in their geological formation, the beauty of their crystals and the sparkle of their iridescent coating. They find their place on a shelf, a desk, in a mineral display case or a decorative bowl, and make a lovely curiosity to show and tell.

What is the difference with the BISMA bismuth crystal?

Both objects display iridescent reflections, but their origin differs. The BISMA bismuth is a metal that is melted and then cooled: it crystallizes in steps, and its colors are born from an oxide layer that forms naturally on its surface during cooling. The AURORA geodes are hollow natural stones, lined with quartz, on which a metallic coating has been applied. BISMA is a unique piece of geometric shape; AURORA brings together eight small geodes with mineral texture.

Is it a good gift idea?

Yes, especially for someone who loves stones, colors and curiosity objects. The set is delivered gift-ready and lends itself well to a Christmas or birthday gift, for a science-loving teenager, a beginner mineral collector or a decoration enthusiast. The eight geodes can also be shared among several people. For a more complete gift, pair it with the LUCIOLE yooperlite or the BISMA bismuth crystal.
