Everything you need to know

365 nm UV light360° suctionUSB powered

Mosquito traps are rarely objects you want to put on display. The CACTUS trap lamp takes the opposite approach: with its white cylindrical base, pine green fins arranged in a crown, and a champagne-colored cap, it looks like a small succulent sitting on a bedside table. Underneath this design lies a simple principle. A 365 nm UV LED light, visible as a purple ring, attracts mosquitoes and other small flying insects; a 360° suction fan, called Vortex, then pulls them into a removable tray located at the bottom of the device, where they become trapped and dehydrate. The device is powered via USB (5 V, 0.3 A) with a power rating of 1.5 W, and weighs only 307 g. You plug it in, switch it on, and it works while you read, watch a movie, or get ready for sleep, all while emitting a soft glow that complements the evening.

How it works

Attract, inhale, contain

The trap relies on two complementary elements. First, the light: the LEDs emit at a wavelength of 365 nanometers, within the near-ultraviolet (UV-A) range, a light to which many nocturnal insects are sensitive. It is diffused through a luminous ring located under the cap, between the cactus fins. Then, the suction: a small fan creates a downward airflow all around the device, which pulls in insects approaching the light.

They fall into the collection tray attached under the base, which is equipped with a spiral grid. Unable to escape, they dehydrate inside. The tray is removed by twisting it, allowing for easy emptying and cleaning. The casing is made of ABS plastic, a lightweight and rigid material commonly used for small household appliances.

A useful object with style

The CACTUS was designed to remain in plain sight. Its matte white base evokes a ceramic pot, its rounded green fins recall the ribs of a cactus, and its champagne top adds a precious touch. In our photos, it naturally finds its place on a light-wood nightstand, a Scandinavian sideboard, a coffee table in front of a white sofa, or at the foot of an actual cactus.

Lit up in the evening, it diffuses a purple light between its fins that creates a dimmed ambiance, halfway between a nightlight and a decorative object. It’s an accessory you don't need to hide in a corner, and which suits a bohemian interior just as well as a minimalist bedroom, a reading nook decorated with plants, or a home office.

Getting started

1
Plug the included USB cable into the device (Micro USB input) and then into a USB power adapter or a powered USB port.
2
Turn on the lamp: the UV ring lights up and the fan starts running.
3
Preferably place it in a darkened room, at a moderate height and away from other light sources, ideally before nightfall.
4
Regularly empty the tray by twisting it to unlock it, after unplugging the device.
Box contents: the CACTUS lamp, a USB cable, and a user manual. The USB power adapter is not mentioned in the kit contents: you can use a compatible 5V phone charger or a computer's USB port.
For optimal use: close the curtains and turn off the other lights in the room once the lamp is on. The less it competes with other light sources, the more visible its UV light is to insects.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the CACTUS lamp work?
It combines a UV light with a suction system. The LEDs, set at 365 nm, emit a purple glow to which many flying insects are sensitive. When they approach the luminous ring, the airflow created by the 360° fan pulls them downward into a collection tray located under the device. A spiral grid prevents them from getting out, and they dehydrate inside. The principle relies solely on light and air: there are no refills to replace, no pads, or liquids to diffuse in the room.
What insects can it attract?
The lamp is designed to attract mosquitoes and other small flying insects sensitive to ultraviolet light. However, its actual effectiveness depends on many factors: the insect species, the size of the room, the presence of other light sources, whether windows are open, or even the device's placement. We therefore cannot promise numerical results. To give yourself the best chance, use it in a closed and darkened room, and let it run regularly rather than occasionally, evening after evening.
Where should I place it in the room?
Preferably install it in a dark place, away from other lamps and screens that could distract the insects. A moderate height, on a chest of drawers, a low shelf, or a bedside table, works well. Many users turn it on early in the evening, windows closed, before occupying the room. In a bedroom, place it at some distance from the bed rather than right next to the pillow. Avoid locations exposed to strong drafts, which disrupt the suction flow, as well as humid areas like the bathroom.
How do I empty and clean the tray?
Start by unplugging the lamp. Turn it over gently and twist the tray located under the base to unlock it, then remove it. Empty its contents into a trash bin. The tray and its spiral grid can then be cleaned with a dry brush or a cloth; if they are rinsed, let them dry completely before putting them back. Never run the body of the device under water, as it contains the motor and electronics. Replace the tray by twisting it until it is securely locked before plugging the lamp back in.
How do I power it?
The CACTUS lamp operates via USB: it has a Micro USB input and includes a USB cable. It requires a power supply of 5 V and 0.3 A, which is a very low power rating of 1.5 W. You can plug it into a USB power adapter, such as a phone charger, into a computer's USB port, or into a power bank. Since the power adapter is not mentioned in the kit contents, provide one if you do not already have one. There is no built-in battery: the device must remain plugged in to operate.
Could the light disturb sleep?
The glow emitted is soft and diffuses between the cactus fins, but it remains visible: it is a purple light, comparable to that of a small nightlight. People who sleep in complete darkness may prefer to place the lamp at a distance from the bed, orient it toward a wall, or turn it on in the evening before bedtime. The fan produces a slight operating noise, which is discreet but noticeable in a very quiet bedroom. In any case, do not stare directly at the UV light source up close, and install the lamp out of your direct line of sight.
Can it be used outdoors?
The CACTUS lamp was designed as an indoor object, to be placed in a bedroom, living room, or office. Its ABS plastic casing and USB power supply are not rated as water-resistant. It can potentially be used under a well-protected shelter, such as a closed veranda, but must always remain shielded from rain, humidity, and water splashes. In an open outdoor area, competition from ambient lighting and the wind would significantly reduce its effectiveness anyway.
